Same Day Moves

Whether moving to assisted living, long term care or secure dementia care, transitioning to a new home or facility can be a daunting task for anyone. Same-day moves (where the individual is relocated on short notice) pose unique challenges.

The Impact of Same-Day Moves:
-
Cognitive and Emotional Effects: Sudden changes in surroundings can trigger confusion, stress and a sense of loss.
-
Disruption of Routine: There is comfort in routines, a sudden move can disrupt their sense of stability, causing anxiety.
-
Stress on Family Members and Caregivers: Relatives or caregivers may feel pressured and overwhelmed by the need to handle the logistics and all the details of the move swiftly while also managing the emotional needs of their loved ones.
This is where Tartan Spaces can help!

Successful Same Day Moves require detailed planning in addition packing of items and transfer of furniture:

Pre-Move Preparation:
The Tartan Spaces team members are experienced in handling sensitive situations, like dementia. We can help to ensure the move is as smooth as possible. We will meet with the family to discuss the logistics of the move.
Day of the Move:
Same-day moves for individuals with dementia require careful attention, thoughtful preparation, and an understanding of the person’s unique needs. By anticipating the challenges of such a transition and utilizing strategies that prioritize emotional and cognitive well-being, caregivers and family members can help minimize the stress and ensure a smoother adjustment to the new environment. Ultimately, the goal is to create a safe, familiar, and functional space where the individual can continue to thrive.
-
We recommend the family take the senior out for the day as this can be very difficult for a loved one living with Dementia.
-
Tartan Spaces will arrive prior to the move team to ensure everything is packed and labelled for the move. We will pack familiar items (photos, favorite objects, clothing) that can provide comfort during the transition. These items can help ease the individual into their new environment by creating a sense of continuity and familiarity.
-
We will keep in touch with the family regarding timing and when the room is completed to bring loved one to their new space.

*Dementia specific - Individuals with dementia may not fully understand why they are moving or what is happening, making the process even more disorienting.
Exercise Patience — With Yourself and Others
Moving can be a challenging transition, particularly for senior citizens leaving a home they have cherished for decades. It is natural to feel emotional about parting with belongings. Remember, the objective is not to discard everything, but to simplify and streamline your life. Allocate time for breaks and acknowledge your progress with small rewards throughout the process.
